Atlassian Jira and Confluence data exports: preparation and rights review

Prepare Atlassian Jira and Confluence records for an AI data licensing review: export scope, content risks, provenance, and a bounded pilot.

What the export does and does not establish

Atlassian documents Jira Cloud data export and separate Confluence content-export options. Treat the two products as related sources, not one interchangeable backup. Choose a supported format for the product and deployment you actually use, and verify current limitations before relying on older migration instructions or assuming that comments and attachments are included.

Content boundaries to review

Jira issues can reveal customer incidents, vulnerability details, production logs, or commercial roadmap decisions. Confluence pages may combine internal knowledge with vendor documentation and client deliverables. Marketplace app content can have separate storage and access behavior. Being the site administrator does not settle ownership of every paragraph, screenshot, or uploaded file.

Prepare a narrow candidate collection

For a workflow dataset, connect issues to resolution evidence and approved documentation while preserving the distinction between observed events and later explanations. Remove credentials and operational identifiers from logs. Avoid flattening restricted incident investigations into general support examples. Review linked pages independently; an issue reference is not permission to include the entire linked space.

Evidence to preserve

Preserve project and space identifiers, issue keys, page IDs, status meanings, export settings, and timestamps. Record the relationship between an issue and each linked document version. Capture contributor and contractor agreements through the appropriate internal review, plus evidence of customer restrictions. Track omitted app fields and attachment failures in a coverage report.

Validate before offering a sample

A strong pilot might pair a small set of resolved internal defects with reviewed root-cause writeups. Keep security incidents, personnel matters, and client-owned specifications out unless separately cleared. Have domain experts check whether the stated fix actually resolved the issue, since a closed ticket alone does not establish that an answer is correct.

Before any external sample or sale, have the responsible rights and privacy reviewers assess the proposed recipient, training or evaluation purpose, retention, redistribution, and deletion obligations. Preserve the relevant contract versions and written decisions. These preparation steps are a review framework, not a legal conclusion or a statement that the platform endorses commercialization.
